Coffee vs. Gasoline

How much does coffee cost per gallon?

Let’s just say on average one spends $2.00 per 16 oz cup of coffee. 128 oz. equals 1 gallon, which also equals 8-16 oz. cups of coffee. So potentially people are paying $16.00 per gallon of coffee at that “corner coffee shop.” Now the $2.00 is being very conservative.

And I thought $1.25 for my 20 oz. Diet Coke was expensive. That only translates to $8.00 per gallon. Of course It is still cheaper to purchase 2 – 2 Liter bottles of Diet Coke, because that only costs me just under $3.00 per gallon of pop.

Let’s be sensible here, if one were to brew their coffee at home and pays $10 per lb of roasted coffee that translates to approximately 40 cents per 16 oz cup which then would add up to $3.20 per gallon of coffee. Now which would you rather pay $3.20 per gallon of gas or $16.00 per gallon?

So even though gas prices are on the rise this may explain why the “corner coffee shop” will now be referred to as the “every other corner coffee shop.”
