I know that people can get in “trouble” when religion and politics are brought up, but I just have to pen a few words tonight. Today was truly a marvelous day for America and it was truly a historical day that many of us were able to visually live via the internet and modern television. I have come across some naysayers on the election of Obama. I personally did not vote that way, but I am friends with many who did. I’m excited to know that others can truly be excited about our political process.
A few things did bother me today. First and foremost I heard the term “Our Great Democracy.” I’m sorry folks, but we don’t live in a Democracy. We live in a Republic. There is a vast difference. The main difference is that a Democracy is ruled by the majority, while the Republic governs the majority and is distinguished by a constitution. Let us never forget the difference.
The second thing that bothered me is that many in my circles posted their facebook status as saying; “I’m glad that God is in control.” Lest we forget that God has always been in control, and was in control during our last presidency too. It’s not necessarily a bad statement; more so than it seems to be a statement saying that they did not have to worry about God being in control during the last White House. I am truly thankful that God will always be in control, and that we can fully trust in Him.
The final thing is as I’ve mentioned before that we should be careful to put all of our trust and confidence in a man. “A man at his best is at best still a man.”
