This afternoon we were notified that Kathryn Scott passed away on Saturday. I'm so thankful that I had the opportunity to know her these past 20 years or so.
Even though death can be a sad thing for friends and family it can also be a joyous occasion. I can truly say by my own witness that this lady was truly a believer in Christ. She was overjoyed with the opportunity to serve the Lord. It's not that Mrs. Scott was a religious person, but she was a humble person saved by God's grace alone.
True Christianity is not another religion, but it is a relationship with God. It is also not like a buffet where you pick and choose your system of belief, but it is God opening a person's eyes to the truth. Romans 3:10-11 says that no one seeks after God. We all start off our life out of fellowship with God, and the only thing that can bridge that gap is Christ's love for us on the cross.
I too am thankful for the opportunity to serve the Lord. I am thankful for Kathryn Scott, and thankful for having the opportunity of seeing her love and serve the King of her life, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Update 9/17/2008
Well today I attended Mrs. Scott's funeral. I definitely felt outnumbered by the mature audience. It was a very special tribute to a lady who would not desire any glory for herself. It was hard to hold back tears as she impacted my life in a very personal way. Mainly my tears were tears of joy as I realize she is in the presence of the Lord. I also know that her family will miss her deeply, but it was so refreshing to hear the wonderful eulogy and testimony from her granddaughter. Kathryn truly had a heart for others. The main passage was Psalm 118:1. "O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: because his mercy endureth for ever." Wow, what a thought to dwell on.
I share all of this for 2 reasons. One is that it gives me the ability to express my thoughts, and it leaves a legacy for my own family. Second I do it to encourage others. The main difference between a non-believer and a true believer in Christ is that a true believer will have genuine God given love for people. God's love is so amazing and powerful that it can change the heart of even a hot tempered 9 year old boy who didn't like mowing lawns. I can't explain it all, but I can say that I've been changed and I have a heart that loves others. May all who read contemplate this thought. God is good and His mercy endures forever.
